If at first you don't see it, check the Web site
This could be considered another "Fun with deadlines" entry, but some of our readers didn't get the Lions game in their Sunday paper. The preseason contest was incomplete at the time of our first deadline (10:30), so our readers in the southern part of the county didn't get to read the story.
Instead of reading about the Lions' latest debacle, they got a story about how Brett Favre is catching up to the Vikings' offense.
To compound the issue, the Tigers played a late game in Oakland the same night, and, to a lesser extent, the Shock game was too late for the first edition, also.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but we do what we can with time constraints. On the bright side, at least there was a section full of high school football in our annual preview, which debuted Sunday in section H.

Yes, he did
Some headlines just match up perfectly with the situation. Every once in a while, the perfect fit falls right in your lap, as it did with Y.E. Yang's victory over Tiger Woods in Sunday's final round of the PGA Championship at Hazeltine. Designer Dave Pemberton gets the credit for harvesting this gem.

Manny bobblehead night revisited
The L.A. Dodgers will be revisiting Manny Ramirez bobblehead night Sept. 16. The first time the promotion took place, July 22, Ramirez sat out ... until the sixth inning, when he hit a pinch-hit grand slam. An early AP story I put on the baseball page that night said Ramirez sat out the game. You can imagine my horror when I got home and saw his grand slam trot around the bases on "Baseball Tonight." I kept waiting for them to say it was from a different day, but that announcement never came.
The new bobbleheads are supposed to be formed in the image of Ramirez, as he tipped his cap to the crowd following the pinch-hit slam.
